05 - The Brief History of Reiki
Reiki, a Japanese energy balancing meditation practice, discovered by Mikao Usui in the early 1920s along his journey of seeking the state of inner peace. He undertook an intense meditation and fasting for 21 days at Mount Kurama.
On the final day of his meditation, a bright light filled his vision as he felt a strong sense of energy over his head. The experience awakened him to channel the energy of Reiki through his hands for his own wellbeing, and slowly began offering support to those in need.
Before World War II, Reiki had established itself in Japan, as Usui began teaching Reiki to a small group of students, and with clinics and organisations dedicated to its practice.
Reiki was later brought to Hawaii and gained its popularity in the western world.
